The Evolution of WIDI: Our Lowest Wireless MIDI Jitter To This Date...
It’s been six years since the first WIDI Master pre-sale launched on April 5, 2020.
Since then, WIDI has found its way into studios, live rigs, classrooms, and mobile setups all over the world. And what still stands out to us most is the community behind it. Every day, we see your setups, your ideas, and your feedback. That’s what has shaped WIDI into what it is today.
If you want to revisit how it all started, the original crowd creation story is still worth a read.

A new step forward: Firmware v2.6.0
Today, we’re releasing firmware v2.6.0 for all WIDI users.
Over the years, one topic kept coming back from the community: timing. Not just latency, but stability. So we focused on that.
With this update, WIDI now achieves sub-1 ms jitter in WIDI-to-WIDI connections. In practice, that means tighter timing, more stable clock, and a more reliable playing experience - especially in demanding setups.
What’s new?
This update is free for all users and brings:
- Up to 60% lower latency in grouped connections
- Less than 1 ms jitter in Low Jitter Mode (WIDI to WIDI)
Why jitter matters!
Latency tells you how fast a signal travels. Jitter tells you how consistent that timing is. And for MIDI, consistency is everything.
If timing fluctuates, you’ll notice it in things like:
- unstable MIDI clock
- drifting sequencers
- skipped or uneven notes
That’s why reducing jitter has been such an important focus for us.
How we approached it!
Wireless MIDI is not simple. Bluetooth comes with its own challenges: interference, timing intervals, and system-level scheduling.
For this update, we improved our Smart Connectivity Algorithms (SCA) with a dynamic clock compensation system. In simple terms, WIDI devices continuously align their internal timing with each other, while using BLE MIDI timestamping to keep events in sync.
We also refined how grouped WIDI devices communicate, balancing timing and stability more effectively when multiple devices are connected.
The result is something we’re really happy with - and we hope you’ll feel the difference immediately.
Feel free to watch the test video below by Thomas Vliagkoftis, lead singer of The Great Gig – A Tribute to Pink Floyd, who resolved his setup challenge using the new firmware during beta testing.
A small reflection (from us to you)
Six years ago, WIDI Master was just getting started. Today, it has grown into something much more mature, shaped by thousands of real-world setups and ideas from all over the world.
What we’re most proud of is that this progress didn’t come from one big moment, but from many small improvements over time delivered as free updates.
So if you’ve been with us for a while: thank you.
And if you just joined: welcome.
Real-world testing
We also took the time to compare WIDI against other commonly used Bluetooth MIDI solutions.
Below, you’ll see the results (graph included):
- Blue line: WIDI to WIDI
- Orange line: BLE MIDI to Y device
- Gray line: BLE MIDI to R device
Under the same test conditions, WIDI stayed consistently below 1 ms jitter and often close to zero. The other devices showed more fluctuation, and in some cases increasing latency over time.
We don’t share this to compete. We share it because we know how important stable timing is when you actually use this in your setup.

How to enable Low Jitter Mode
If you want to try it yourself, here’s how to get started:
- Update your WIDI device to firmware v2.6.0 via the WIDI App
- Set your device to “Prefer Low Jitter” mode
- Repeat this for all connected WIDI devices
- Connect your setup (1-to-1 or grouped)

The WIDI ecosystem
This update will be available across the full WIDI ecosystem, including products from our partners like Korg, Kurzweil, Nektar, Limex, Xvive, ESI, Artesia and more.
You can install the update directly via the WIDI App.
Built together with you!
Looking back, WIDI has gone through more than 200 firmware updates. Most of them were driven directly by real-world use, questions, and feedback from the community.
What started as a small idea has grown into a mature ecosystem - thanks to you.
And we’re not done yet. If you have feedback, ideas, or questions, feel free to add it in the comment section of this blog.
We’re always listening.

Awesome guys! Quick query, are your WIDI products midi 2.0 ready or firmware updgradeable?
We are working with other members within the MIDI Association to develop the BLE MIDI 2.0 standard. Once the standard is finalized, we believe WIDI can upgrade to gain the corresponding new features.
Hi! I was hoping that you would have fixed the issue found in 0230 where only one M-Wave SMC Mixer can be paired to a U-Host or Bud Pro (v0226 could connect 4 SMC Mixer devices without issue). But I still see the same issue with version 0260. It seems like the SMC Mixer is running some “legacy” version of BLE that is no longer supported. If possible, please reach out and I am happy to help with demonstration and testing! Previous discussion on Facebook group with CME WIDI Experts user: https://tinyurl.com/4x4tvv74
I’ve shared this internally and our CTO is looking in to this. Please connect via http://www.cme-pro.com/support and we can work together to resolve this.
